10 reasons why Blackout should be Black listed

10. It reminds California of the rolling power outages they deal with every summer. They don't need that mental stress.

9. Although she may not see any harm in being a mom the courts do so she has no business singing about it.

8. I will tell you what you have to do to get me to want your body... lose some weight?

7. The album art offends the pope. That should be reason enough.

6. Does she really have to call her audience by that disgusting word? Seriously, if we are even listening to her album we deserve some respect from her because at least we gave it a chance (yeah right!)

5. Eminem's Toy Soldier blows Brittany Toy Soldier out of the water with a rocket launcher.

4. Weird man noises on every track... Need I say more.

3. Watching her baby drive is more entertaining.

2. I would rather get a spear through the eye than put anything by Brittany spears in my ear.

1. VMAs??? WTF??

If Ozzy invites you to a party you better show up.

Evidently Rob Zombie and Ozzy Osbourne threw a party last night for their fans before a show in Fargo, North Dakota hosted by PDL Productions. The conversation must have been great until Steve ( wanted for armed robbery) noticed that his buddy Carl ( wanted for aggravated assault) was there too. As old friends do they struck up a conversation about evading the law and beating women while drinking beer. It wasn't long before they began to see many old friends from nights spent in jail and bar brawls, all with outstanding warrants.

But, hey, its no big deal! After all this is a Ozzy/Zombie concert and that kind of crowd is typical. You can hardly expect a clean cut audience for someone who bites the head off of bats and doves. The party went great until CEO of PDL productions Sheriff Paul D. Laney pulled the ole' switcher-roo. Then the really party began as security guards turned into parole officers and deputy sheriffs and the warrant round up began.

Its good to know that the justice department is still stereotyping citizens. They are going to have a hell of time getting that indie kid with possession charges though because the bands he listens to are so pretentious they don't throw pre-parties for low life fans.

I can only hope they make a video of this. It would be a great follow to a night of "To Catch a Predator" re-runs.

To be completely honest, I have never been much of a Beastie Boys fan. I loved the single Girls but only because I heard it at a time when I was obsessed with them (not to say I am no longer) and I still enjoy it because it is a good song. But for some reason I never really listened to them. It probably has more to do with my stereotype against white rappers than the talent the possess. I should know better than to doubt a group shaped by the hands of Rick Rubin.

I don't know too much about the Beastie Boys. When the 5 Boroughs came out I dismissed it without a listen despite the advice of my friends. But I gave The Mix Up a spin just because it was instrumental. I am forever glad that I did.

The album is about six months old but still deserves some recognition. Twelve tracks of jazz fusion will put your faith back in hip hop. All of the tracks maintain a driving beat and don't expect to be blown away by inventive sounds achieved through elaborate effects. The album definitely finds a safe sound and sticks with it. On the other hand through elaborate melodies and song structure the boys prove the are top notch musicians.

Electric Worm has a syncopated beat with a familiar 80s wah sound in the background. You might say its a jazzier version of the Police or Bedouin Soundclash. 14th St. Break does a brilliant job of reinventing a single melody and will reinvent your concept of Jazz.

I have never been a big Beastie Boys fan but today I have been converted and you can bet that from now on I will be fighting for my right to listen to great white hip-hop.

Jimmy Eat World > Kanye West > 50 Cent

Well kinda...

I know you have heard about it. It has been everywhere really. 50 Cent has been projected to be out sold by Kanye West on September 11 when the both drop new discs. So in response 50 says if that happens he is going to quit. The world throws a party and Fiddy realizes how much we hate him so he changes his mind.
Why Fiddy? Why? Just fade away and spend the rest of your days at your candy shop.

Whatever. At least JEW is putting out a new album in October. Definitely pre-ordering that one. Big Casino is the first single from Chase the Light available only for a listen on their myspace page. Bad thing is their is a trippy plug for the album at the end. Guess the don't want any web rips.
At any rate, the new album is suppose to be a mix of dreamy and edgy JEW.

Food for thought... GooglePhone being announced next month. It is going to be tight...Too bad I allready have my iPhone...

What the Acadamy is not...

The Academy is... not emo.
not punk.
not Fueled By Ramen.
O wait. Yes they are...
The Academy is... is a band that perplexes me. When I first heard them I associated their sound more with indie then emo although their debut album Almost Here did blend well with that genre. Two years, a couple warped tours, a side project (Cobra Starship via Snakes on a Plane) and cameos on several FBR records later their sound is further from their label than it was at the start.

Don't get me wrong. These guys don't belong on Barsuk. I am not saying that at all. And the certainly don't fit in with Pitchfork. I am just saying they don't fit in the Fueled by Ramen. Their new album Santi is far from a single beat four chord copy cat song structure album that is typical of Fueled by Ramen. It has a dance feel to it ( I guess that is the FBR connection) and more after production affects than a typical emo record. Overall I wouldn't say it is great but it isn't bad.

I just want to say they is out of place on their label.

Intimate Take Away Show performance

The Take Away show puts artists in environments that they would not normally play and the results are very intimate.
We have the Nationals sitting around a dinner table after finishing their meal and the Arcade Fire in an elevator. Both performances are very nice.

Amen! Preach it rapper!

The more I listen to MIMS new record Music is My Saviour, the more I begin to think that MIMS is my saviour or maybe it is the other way around that he is music's Saviour. Sacrilegious? Yes. True? Maybe.

For all the hype his name might create, MIMS has a good reason for his acronym. By the time he was 13 both of his parent's died. He credits music as what kept him clean and off the streets. For everything that he has done for music it is good to see what he is doing for music.

Maybe it is because of the constant references to Houston my hometown, or his cheesy humor like "I suggest you raise up like Exxon gas." or the Kanye West sample ("This is Why I'm Hot"). I don't know why but this is the first rap album I have felt in a long time. Or maybe it is his shout outs to dead rap legends on "Where I Belong" A lot of it I think has to do with the variety in his songs.

Take any gangster rap and you have the same beat with little variation carrying the entire song and the next beat almost seems only to be a variation of the previous. MIMS shows a lot more musical variety within a single song and throughout the entire album. A lot of this probably has to do with the variety of regional rap that he showcases throughout the album such as " Don't Wanna Play" (the dirty south).

One thing that is not original (but if it was any different you would not be listening to rap) are the themes discussed in his lyrics. Spirituality, violence, pride, women. While he is very "confident" in what he has to say about himself there is a positive message in some of his songs about staying off the streets and not living the thug life. Just because he isn't the next 50 cent doesn't mean he would be a good fight to pick. MIMS may have a sissy sounding name but he is not afraid to bring the game to the table.
